Let us affirm our commitment to the heritage of our region
Together, let’s restore this chapel to its former glory !
Autumn has passed, and winter, in the natural order of the seasons, has followed !
In the orchard of the Saint-Maclou chapel, clinging to slender, bare branches, a few apples are holding out. Weakened by the passage of time since they first appeared, they are at the mercy of a gust of wind, destined to fall to the ground in the fresh grass like their kin. But since the cycle of nature is immutable, next spring they will reappear as blossoms…This Inventory & Suggestions report was presented on November 17, 2025, to Mr. François Aubey, Mayor of Mézidon-Vallée-d’Auge, and Mr. Bruno Guiard, Deputy Mayor of Le Mesnil-Mauger.
During this presentation, we focused on identifying and describing all the intervention and restoration needs, from the chapel’s perimeter to its interior living space.
This commitment to leaving nothing out was essential to providing the municipality, which owns the property, with a comprehensive vision of what a 360° development and restoration program could entail.
With this scope defined, it will be easier for the project stakeholders to validate the various proposals, agree on priorities, understand their starting point, and identify where they can collectively go.
This document also aims to raise awareness among potential patrons and/or investors by providing them with a comprehensive vision of a project that integrates both environmental factors and the very structure of the building to be restored.
It aims to give these patrons and/or investors a clear understanding of a well-structured and thoughtful approach in which every contribution will be made with overall coherence in mind.
We do not underestimate the scale of the task required to successfully implement all the suggestions we have outlined.
The realization of our recommendations hinges on the acceptance of the municipality of Mézidon-Vallée-d’Auge, in accordance with the criteria that will be defined, and within a timeframe dictated by securing the necessary funding.
We hope that this document is comprehensive and that it allows us to collectively validate its core principles.
The presentation of this proposal was successful, as the municipality accepted its main principles and we agreed to meet again in spring 2026 to establish a working group to develop a plan for its implementation.
We hope that, after reading this document, we will eventually convince and interest as many people as possible to join us in restoring the Saint-Maclou chapel to its former glory !

Looking at these few images, one can gauge the scale of the work to be carried out. It appears that interventions will be necessary in very diverse areas, requiring the services of specialized craftsmen or companies qualified in renovation, restoration, repair and development; all with the utmost respect for the rules of the art…
