On Friday, August 16 at 5:00 p.m. at the Saint-Maclou chapel, Father Donat Nsabimana of Notre-Dame de Vie Parish will celebrate the Mass of the Assumption.
On August 15, the Assumption of the Virgin Mary is celebrated, that is to say the ascension into heaven of the mother of Jesus.
For Christians, Mary represents the first human person to enter directly into the glory of God, without passing through death.
This tradition, although not very present in the Gospels, is nevertheless very old and was celebrated by the first Christians of the East.
A public holiday in France since the reign of Louis XIII, it was only in the 20th century, in 1950, that it was established as a religious dogma by Pope Pius XII.
This festival is frequently accompanied by religious processions dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
